Early in life I was acknowledged for my artistic talents, winning a national Scholastic Art Scholarship at age 11. Throughout my life I was fascinated by any artistic expression, but especially forms of art that mimicked the shapes and motions found in nature. Over the years, I have worked in many mediums, leather carving, stone and bronze sculpture, photography and woodwork.
In the late 60's, I was introduced to lapidary while running a military hobby shop overseas. Because resources were tight when I returned home, I resumed my previous forms of artistic expression. After my military service and subsequent college years, I began a career as a residential designer. This seemed to take up most of my time, but even though I was using my creative abilities in the design process, I still yearned to develop my artistic gifts, continually exploring various forms of artistic expression.
While doing temporary work in Southern California, I was exposed to wire work jewelry at a rock and gem show and was instantly captivated by this art form. The process of sculpting thin strands of gold around gems of the earth that have existed since the beginning of time, was an irresistible lure to my spirit.
The process of creating one-of-a-kind, heirloom jewelry pieces from the jewels of the earth is a spiritual experience for me. I do production wire work, but my greatest pleasure comes from letting the stones talk to me and inspiriting the creation of a truly unique work of art. I particularly find the unusual shaped stones, beads and fused glass pieces to be the most gratifying with which to work.
My aspiration is to create pieces that bring as much pleasure to their owner as they give me in the creation. I look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to have one of the pieces seen in my galleries. Maybe you have an item of your own, a coin, gemstone or other item of particular significance that you would like to have set in 14K gold or 14K gold-filled wire.
